[Java] 상속(Inheritance)에 대해

자바에는 상속이란 개념이 존재합니다.

 

상속이란?

상속은 쉽게 말해 부모 클래스와 자식 클래스가 있을 때, 자식 클래스는 부모 클래스를 선택해서 그 부모의 멤버를 물려받아 그대로 사용하는 것을 말합니다.

 

자식 클래스 = 부모 클래스로부터 상속받은 멤버 + 추가된 멤버(옵션)

※ 여기서 말하는 멤버는 인스턴스 변수와, 인스턴스 메소드를 말합니다.

 

다만, 주의해야 할 점.

1. 접근 제어자가 private인 경우에는 자식 클래스에서 상속이 불가능 합니다.

public class Parent {
    private int a = 1;
    public int b = 2;

    private void printA() {
        System.out.println(a);
    }

    public void printB() {
        System.out.println(b);
    }
}

• Parent 클래스는 a와 b의 인스턴스 변수를 갖습니다. 이 때 a는 접근제어자가 private이기 때문에, 추후 하위 클래스에서 이 클래스를 상속받더라도 a에 대해 접근할 수는 없습니다.
• 마찬가지로 하위 클래스에서 printA()와 printB()의 인스턴스 메소드를 갖는 Parent 클래스에 대해 상속받을 때, printB()에 대한 상속은 가능하지만, 접근제어자가 private인 printA() 인스턴스 메소드에 대한 상속은 이루어지지 않습니다.

    public int c = 3;
    public void printC() {
        System.out.println("c = " + c);
    }

public class ChildTest {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        Child c = new Child();
        c.printA(); // ERROR, 부모 클래스의 printA()는 private이므로 상속되지 않음
        c.printB();
        c.printC();
    }
}

 

2. 부모와 자식 클래스가 서로 다른 패키지에 있는 경우에는 부모 클래스의 멤버가 default 접근 제어자를 갖는 경우에도 상속이 불가능

반대로 말하면 상/하위 클래스가 서로 같은 패키지에 있는 경우, default 접근 제어자를 갖는 멤버에 대한 상속은 이루어진다.

public class ParentBook {
    String title;
    String genre;

    public void print() {
        System.out.println("TITLE : " + title);
        System.out.println("GENRE : " + genre);
    }
}

ParentBook 클래스는 title과 genre라는 default 접근 제어자의 인스턴스 변수를 갖습니다. 그리고 인스턴스 변수를 출력하는 상속 가능한 public의 인스턴스 메소드 print()를 갖습니다.

• 접근제어자는 생략가능하며 생략했을 때는 자동으로 default 임을 뜻하게 됩니다. 따라서 default 일경우에는 접근제어자를 지정하지 않습니다.

public class ChildBook extends ParentBook{

    ChildBook(String title, String genre) {
        this.title = title;
        this.genre = genre;
    }
}

ChildBook에서는 ParentBook을 상속받았습니다.

상속된 멤버로는 인스턴스 변수에는 title, genre, 인스턴스 메소드에는 print()를 상속 받았습니다. 부모 클래스로부터 title과 genre에 대한 멤버 변수를 상속받았기 때문에, 생성자에서 this.title과 this.genre에 대한 컴파일 에러가 나지 않는 것입니다.

public class ChildBookTest {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        ChildBook c = new ChildBook("노인과 바다", "소설");
        c.print();
    }
}

ChildBook 인스턴스를 하나 만들어 print() 메소드를 실행해보면 다음과 같은 출력결과를 얻을 수 있습니다.

c.print()가 가능한 이유는 부모 클래스로부터 print() 메소드를 상속받았기 때문에 그대로 사용이 가능한데, 단순하게 자식 클래스에서는 상속받은 부모의 멤버를 그대로 물려받아 사용할 수 있다고 생각하시면 됩니다.

 

이 때 부모의 멤버를 그대로 사용하지 않고 자식 클래스에서 해당 메소드를 재정의하여 사용하고 싶은 경우, 다음과 같이 부모클래스의 메소드를 오버라이딩 하여 자식 클래스에서 기능을 재정의할 수 있습니다.

public class ChildBook extends ParentBook{

    public String writer;

    ChildBook(String title, String genre, String writer) {
        this.title = title;
        this.genre = genre;
        this.writer = writer;
    }

    @Override
    public void print() {
        System.out.println("TITLE IS " + title + " AND GENRE IS" + genre);
        System.out.println("Written By " + writer);
    }
}

public class ChildBookTest {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        ChildBook c = new ChildBook("노인과 바다", "소설", "해밍웨이");
        c.print();
    }
}

 

부모 클래스 호출 : super(매개변수 리스트);

사실 자바에서는 자식 인스턴스를 생성하면, 부모 인스턴스를 먼저 생성한 후, 자식 인스턴스가 그 다음에 생성됩니다.

이 때 부모 클래스의 명시적인 생성자가 없는 경우, 컴파일러는 알아서 기본 생성자(super();)를 호출합니다. 

public class ParentBook {
    String title;
    String genre;
    
//    ParentBook(){} 자동으로 호출

    public void print() {
        System.out.println("TITLE : " + title);
        System.out.println("GENRE : " + genre);
    }
}

public class ChildBook extends ParentBook{

    public String writer;

    ChildBook(String title, String genre, String writer) {
    	super();
        this.title = title;
        this.genre = genre;
        this.writer = writer;
    }

    @Override
    public void print() {
        System.out.println("TITLE IS " + title + " AND GENRE IS" + genre);
        System.out.println("Written By " + writer);
    }

 

부모 클래스는 명시적인 생성자가 없고, 자식 클래스엔 명시적인 생성자가 존재할 때 자식 클래스의 생성자 선언 내부에 맨 첫줄에 super(); 라고 생성됩니다. (이와 같은 경우 작성하지 않아도 알아서 생성하므로 생략해도 OK)

 

하지만 만약 부모 클래스에 명시적인 생성자가 존재하는 경우, 반드시 자식 클래스에서는 super(매개변수 1, 매개변수 2 ...);의 호출을 통해 부모 클래스의 명시적 생성자를 직접 호출해주어야 합니다.

public class ParentBook {
    String title;
    String genre;

    ParentBook(String title, String genre) {
        this.title = title;
        this.genre = genre;
    }

    public void print() {
        System.out.println("TITLE : " + title);
        System.out.println("GENRE : " + genre);
    }
}

• 부모 클래스에 명시적 생성자가 존재

public class ChildBook extends ParentBook{

    private String writer;

    ChildBook(String title, String genre, String writer) {
        super(title, genre);
//        this.title = title;
//        this.genre = genre;
        this.writer = writer;
    }
}

• 자식 클래스에서는 부모 클래스의 명시된 생성자를 super(매개변수 리스트)를 반드시 첫 줄에 직접 호출해 주어야 합니다. (그렇지 않으면 컴파일 에러 발생)
• 이 때 부모 클래스 생성자를 호출하여 멤버 변수값이 할당되었으므로 별도로 this 호출하여 값을 또 할당해줄 필요가 X
